As you may have heard, in just two weeks the BC Innovation Council will be holding its largest and most anticipated event of the year, Connect ‘09 (October 19, 2009 at the Sheraton Wall Centre). The event will feature speakers including local entrepreneurial icon Leonard Brody of NowPublic, the BCIC Annual Awards ceremony as well as informative expert panels, workshops and excellent networking opportunities.
A group of dedicated people at BCIC have been spending the better part of the summer putting together this world class event, so it is really exciting to see it come together in a few short weeks. As a past Chairperson of the Enterprize Conference and Competition, I can definitely appreciate the time, effort and care that goes into making one of these events a success. I have seen personally the transformative effect a large, multifaceted conference can have on an eager and enthusiastic entrepreneur. For that reason, I wanted to share my thoughts on why all serious up and coming technology entrepreneurs should be registered (and ready) for this event:
- Leonard Brody, an internationally recognized and outspoken local entrepreneur, venture capitalist and author will be the keynote speaker. You can learn some unforgettable lessons for your start-up from his career as an entrepreneur and pick up some pointers regarding his perspectives as a venture capitalist. It’s very rare you get a chance to see both sides of the equation.
- Access to innovations happening at academic institutions in BC. The exposure to new technologies and innovations at their early stages are sure to spark some exciting new ideas of your own while providing a valuable learning opportunity.
- Expert panel sessions can help you break down complex practices, issues and ideas in the entrepreneurial world.
- Networking, networking, networking. The BCIC will be hosting structured networking sessions at this event to ensure you have a better chance of connecting and learning from the people you want to talk to. You can expect to leave the event with more valuable new contacts than a typical networking event due to the sheer number of attendees at this event.
Events like Connect ‘09 are annual for a reason. They’re large so you can meet a large number of important contacts yet diverse in their offerings so you’re assured to walk away with something valuable. You can visit www.bcic.ca for more information.
Since VEF Momentum was founded, the BC Innovation Council has been integral in the success of our events and the program as a whole, so we’re proud to be supporting this excellent cause and hope you can too by registering at www.bcic.ca/connect
